Powerboat Courses

Albury Wodonga Discover Sailing Centre is an Australian Sailing accredited Power boating Centre.

If you want to learn to drive a small powerboat or would like to man a rescue boat to support your local sailing club our programs will provide you with the necessary skills.

If you wish to assist in club events or have a desire to be an instructor, coach or official, then the Powerboat Handling course is particularly beneficial. The skills and knowledge gained in this program can be applied in most of the other programs and it is highly recommended for all.

Powerboat Handling
This Course is run over 2 days, a day of theory and a day of practical. Introducing practical driving skills, trip planning, boat maintenance, safety equipment and dealing with emergency situations. It includes boat launching, engines and fuel, types of craft, navigation and weather. It aims to improve boat handling skills at low and planing speeds, all of which may be practiced during the on water session. Following the course, you will have sufficient skills and knowledge to skipper a small powerboat. All successful students can receive TSV Certificates for marine licencing (Vic) or can take their successful completion certificate to NSW Maritime for a marine license.

Safety Boat Operator
This course provides the skills needed to support water based activities at clubs, schools and outdoor recreation centres. Over 2 days you’ll learn about race course design, practice on-water rescue of dinghies and multi-hulls, and even get an awareness of techniques to support kite surfers and kayaks.

These courses are available for members and non-members of the Albury Wodonga Yacht Club. Visit our Events page to see when the next course will be run.
